Which compression preset should I choose?
Balanced is a practical default for screen recordings and general sharing. Smaller uses stronger compression and lower audio bitrate. Higher quality retains more detail but usually produces a larger file and takes longer to encode.
Why can a compressed video become larger?
Compression is not a guarantee of a smaller file. A source that is already highly optimized, very short, low resolution, or encoded with a more efficient codec can grow when converted to H.264. The result screen always compares the actual sizes.
How do maximum-resolution presets work?
The preset fits landscape or portrait video inside the selected 1080p, 720p, or 480p bounds while preserving aspect ratio. Smaller sources are not enlarged, and odd dimensions are rounded down to compatible even values.
Does video compression reduce quality?
Yes. This tool re-encodes video with lossy H.264 compression. The quality presets change how much visual detail is retained; no preset is described as lossless.
What happens to audio and metadata?
When audio is enabled, the first audio track is converted to AAC at a bitrate matched to the quality preset. You can also create a silent video. Subtitles, chapters, location data, cover art, and other metadata are not copied.
Is my video uploaded to Tight Studio?
No. The page downloads a WebAssembly media engine on first use, then processes the file inside your browser. Large and high-resolution videos can still be constrained by device speed and browser memory.
